Program - Migrant Development

FED provides emergency temporary shelter to vulnerable or seriously ill migrants. The shelte has 20 rooms but usually houses between 30-40 migrants. They may be women who’ve suffered rape or domestic abuse and are looking for a safe place to shelter, HIV & TB patients, seriously injured migrants who are unable to work and hence are homeless, unemployed migrants, and others who’ve suffered abuse at the hands of an employer or Thai vigilante attacks. Depending on the individual case, the resident may stay anywhere between a day and over a year. On average we have 500 migrants pass through the temporary shelter each year. The shelter also houses a permanent medical clinic and is adjacent to the Women’s centre so residents can receive medical care and counseling.

The residents maintain a vegetable garden so they are able to have a nutritious meal each day. The able residents cook and look after those who are unable to care for themselves.
