Emergency Assistance PDF Print E-mail
Program - Health

Medical emergencies occur commonly at schools, in the communities and in the workplace. GHRE-FED provides first aid to those with minor injuries. In the event that the case is serious, GHRE-FED provides emergency transportation to a local hospital. In some cases, financial assistance will be given to the patient. Due to difficult language barriers, GHRE-FED ensures that a Burmese – Thai translator is present so that the patient can follow the situation and communicate with the hospital staff. Immigration crackdowns and difficulties in using transport to reach hospital discourage migrants from seeking medical help from hospitals and community clinics as they are afraid of arrest and deportation. Our health team helps to provide the appropriate medical assistance, transportation, translation, negotiate a safe place for migrants within Thai health institutions and negotiate with the Thai hospitals to reduce hospital bills to make them much more affordable. Having a member of the GHRE-FED health team with the patient also offers some degree of security and therefore peace of mind to the migrant.
