Our programs are currently focused on Burmese migrants in Phang Nga, South Thailand and Mae Sot. We are working with other regional and international organizations to achieve our goals.

International Day of the world Indigenous People ceremony celebrated in Southern Thailand PDF Print E-mail

International Indigenous Peoples' Day was organized by NGOs based in Phang Nga province, Southern Thailand and celebrated at the Samsung Community Center in Takuapa Township on Monday, August 9.

The ceremony was opened by the Deputy Chief of Township Development and Sanitation Department and local ethnic people, Thai people, migrant workers and ethnic people from Burma attended the ceremony.

Mr. Htoo Chit from Foundation for Education and Development (FED); one of the organizations of organized team said that; "This is the first time celebration and it is about how ethnic people peacefully and cooperatively lived together and recognized and respect each other. Me, an old Hsalone woman, a Thai man and a Thai university student girl shared how ethnic people of Burma being suffered from oppression in Burma". He said.

Khun Thumas, a Pa-O man from FED who arrange for the celebration explained about the ceremony that; "At the opening, the ethnic young people from Burma performed with their traditional dance, Karen and Mon ethnic dance also performed. After lunch, cultural team from Pachalukaw School that directly supported by His majesty the King entertained with Manuya dance that Thai people pay in grade value. The team was from on 14 province of southern Thailand. This so lovely that ethnic people from 2 countries with their traditional and cultural. It is also very enjoyable". He said.

In rest time after Lunch, puzzle questioning and answering activities started and in the evening cane ball net competition was implemented.

The ceremony was expected around 150 people participated but in reality more than 200 people have joined the ceremony.

A Mon woman who teaching Mon traditional dance to young Mon people said that; "Our traditional dance have perform with the best preparation that we cannot able to do in our own country, I would like to thank for those organizers". She said.

This ceremony is first time for Southern Thailand and ethnic and indigenous people performed their different lovely cultural and tradition.
