Traffickers killed 9 Myanmar workers with gun PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 11 February 2010 05:54

Thai channel 3 has reported that the police found several Myanmar corpses in a forest near the Mae La Maung Road, the old Mae Souk-Bangkok road, yesterday evening.

Journalists from Thai channel 3 had heard rumours of the news from Myanmar   workers in the vicinity of Mae Sot and in Mae Souk and went to the Mae Sot Police   station for interviews. By coincidence, at the same time, Phu Hpa Ya villagers were reporting that they had found two Myanmar corpses next to their village.

It is reported that the bodies had been killed by traffickers who had charged 1000Baht per person to take 12 Myanmar people to Bangkok. Instead they were taken to Kan Hpe Bit, in the southern part of Mae Sot. The traffickers took them to an uninhabited place in the jungle and then killed the girls by shooting them in the head after raping them. Although the traffickers killed 9 of them, 3 of them managed to run away and reported to the Mae Sot Police Station.

The Phu Hpa Ya villagers reported that in the recent past they had found 4 corpses and now they had found another 2. Thai channel 3 quoted from local Karen workers and revealed that one of the corpses was Nan Thin Hpaw and another one was Nan Ya Mar.

In 2003, 17 Myanmar were killed by shots to their heads and in 2007, there were 8 cases similar to this situation. Family members of murdered ones did not dare to report the cases to the Thai police because they were afraid that traffickers might attack and kill them. As a result, the Thai police said that they have been unable to take action against the traffickers.

Moreover, Thai TV 3 revealed that the Thai police had difficulty investigating the trafficking case due to corruption present from the bottom to the top. The Thai police would not dare to investigate and take action because of the police and military investigators involved in the case.

Officers from Mae Sot Police Station considered that even though traffickers took the fees, they did not want to take the responsibility of sending the people to Bangkok. That’s why they killed them.

Thai TV 3 also revealed that the Mae Sot Police station have said they would investigate the case as best as possible.

Police have now found 9 corpses and they have followed the instructions from the Head of Investigation in the The District.
